My cats are very food neurotic and always wanting to be fed. To preserve my sleep and to not worry about them if I work late I ended up getting an automated feeder. Now they would beg when I get home and I had no idea if they were fed. So I took an old android phone and wrote an app for it. I configured it to take a picture a few minutes before feeding time, during, and a few minutes after. With this new information I confirmed the reliability of the automated feeder and how gullible I could be to my cats hunger. Both me and the cats have been better off now that I do not give into their mooching ways.
The app is available free in the Google Play Store
I've been meaning to create a time-lapse feature where the images can be automatically stitched together into a video or gif. While android does support a time-lapse, it is for video only and that can really drain the battery. The great aspect of PixOnTime is that the phone goes into a low power state and is woken up by an alarm, saving lots of battery life. In the meantime I was able to successfully stitch together images from a board game session and turned them into an animated gif. When setting things up I did run across a bug with devices running KitKat so I'll need to track that down. So we grabbed an older phone we had lying around and the app worked wonderfully.
